CNC milling of plywood

Structural frame of a large-scale sculpture

NordCNC carried out a demanding project for Helsinki-based artist Alex Suomi, producing a unique 3-meter sculpture frame. The sculpture is designed to be coated with clay, and its internal load-bearing structure required precise and durable manufacturing.

High-precision CNC milling

The project used 18 mm plywood sheets, from which 29 panels sized 2400 x 1200 mm were milled. The work emphasized dimensional accuracy, as many elements required not only standard 90-degree machining but also specific angled cuts. This ensured the intended geometry and structural integrity of the sculpture.

  • Material: 18 mm plywood
  • Sheet quantity: 29 pcs (2400 x 1200 mm)
  • Special requirements: angled milling cuts

Efficient production and logistics

The large number of sheets required an efficient production workflow, including fast sheet changeovers and structured storage. NordCNC’s production capacity enabled smooth project execution. The finished elements were delivered from Tampere to Vantaa, demonstrating our capability to handle complex projects with coordinated logistics.
